Organisers are scaling back public events amid ongoing security sensitivities and trauma linked to recent conflict.
This year’s programme shifted away from large-scale public displays and traditional fireworks. Instead, events focused on family-friendly gatherings, live music and street performances in public spaces.
Footage shows costumed performers entertaining visitors, people dancing in groups, and families attending open-air music events across the city. Food stalls and informal gatherings replaced the large national spectacles that typically define the holiday.
Despite the reduced scale, many residents still described the day as an important moment of national reflection and continuity.
“So celebrate independence today in Tel Aviv… we have to celebrate something between war to war,” a local resident said, summing up the sentiment shared by some attendees.
Israel’s Independence Day commemorates the country’s declaration of statehood in 1948."

<media:keywords>Viory</media:keywords>
'We're going to settle a historic debt' - Mass trial of nearly 500 alleged MS-13 members begins in El Salvador

'We're going to settle a historic debt' - Mass trial of nearly 500 alleged MS-13 members begins in El Salvador

"A mass trial of nearly 500 people accused of belonging to the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang began in Tecoluca on Tuesday, marking one of the largest judicial proceedings in the country’s recent history.
"We are going to settle a historic debt. The legal situation of 486 leaders of this criminal corporation will be defined," said a judge speaking on condition of anonymity.
The process, taking place at the Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), aims to dismantle the gang’s strategic core. Among the defendants are alleged founders, historic leaders and members of the criminal organisation’s command structure, according to the Attorney General’s Office and judicial authorities.
According to official data, the number of defendants ranges from 486 to 492, all high-ranking members, including the so-called 'ranfla', the highest leadership level within MS-13.
According to the Attorney General’s Office, the defendants will be tried for an extensive list of crimes committed over a decade, between 2012 and 2022, totalling around 47.000 crimes. Authorities say they have sufficient evidence to request the most severe penalties contemplated by law.
"We are making significant progress in gathering the remaining testimonial evidence together with documentary evidence and expert evidence in order to obtain the expected convictions," the judge stated.
One of the most serious episodes alleged in the indictment is the order to murder 87 people in a single weekend in March 2022. Following that wave of violence, President Nayib Bukele decreed a state of exception against gangs, a measure that remains in force and has enabled the detention of more than 91.000 people.
However, collective trials against alleged members of maras have been questioned by organisations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations Human Rights Council, which argue that such trials prevent the individualisation of responsibility and undermine the presumption of innocence as well as the right to an effective defence.

Footage shows devotees of the late pontiff gathered together with neighbours and local authorities near the Basilica of San Jose, located in the Flores neighbourhood in Commune 7. This place is closely linked to the pastoral life of Jorge Bergoglio, who later became Pope Francis, in his early years.
"We are remembering Pope Francis after the first year since his departure to heaven. We wanted to begin the celebrations by planting a peace olive tree," said Martin Bourdieu, parish priest of the Basilica of San Jose.
In Judeo-Christian tradition, the olive tree represents hope, peace and reconciliation between God and humanity. According to biblical accounts, a dove returned to Noah's ark with an olive branch, which was interpreted as a sign that the flood had ended.
In his message, Priest Bourdieu, who led the celebration, elaborated on the spiritual and social legacy attributed to Pope Francis.
"I believe Francis left us a very important legacy, that thinking differently should not turn us into enemies, but rather give us the opportunity to grow and strengthen our bonds," the parish priest explained.
Residents of the neighbourhood also took part in the tribute, sharing their reflections on the pontiff and his impact on the local community.
"For me, Bergoglio is still relevant in society and even more so than when he was alive. We do not value what we have until we no longer have it," said Tomas.
The 'Peace Olive Tree' was also commemorated with a plaque at the site, which can be visited and photographed by followers of the pontiff.

Passengers at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport welcomed the move, citing the inconvenience of prior indirect routes for travel.
“I think it’s a very good decision by our government to start a direct flight from Beijing to New Delhi. Passengers have got a lot of relief from this,” said Showkat Ahmed Bhat, a traveller on the route.
“We used to have to travel to Hong Kong or another country to reach China. Now it’s much easier,” he added, noting the importance of the route for business travellers.
The Beijing–Delhi service is part of a broader restoration of air links between the two countries. Routes such as Delhi–Guangzhou and Kolkata–Shanghai have also resumed, while China Eastern Airlines restarted flights between Kunming and Kolkata on April 18.
India’s IndiGo has also expanded operations in China, including a daily non-stop Kolkata–Shanghai service launched on March 30, alongside flights to Guangzhou from both Kolkata and Delhi.
The returns signal the improving relations between New Delhi and Beijing. In recent months, India has moved to relax restrictions on Chinese investment in sectors such as electronics, capital goods and solar energy, alongside a cautious reset in economic engagement. Diplomatic contacts have also resumed.
Direct flights between China and India were suspended in early 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions and worsening border tensions following clashes along the Himalayan frontier."

<media:keywords>Viory</media:keywords>
Just do it, Don! - Delighted Trump talks 'men in women's sports', 'difficult' bowling after unilateral extension of Iran ceasefire

Just do it, Don! - Delighted Trump talks 'men in women's sports', 'difficult' bowling after unilateral extension of Iran ceasefire

"*SCRIPT TO FOLLOW*"

<media:keywords>Viory</media:keywords>
'No final decision made’ - Iran on Islamabad talks, blasts ‘contradictory messages, conflicting behaviour’ by US

'No final decision made’ - Iran on Islamabad talks, blasts ‘contradictory messages, conflicting behaviour’ by US

"The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baqai, announced on Tuesday that 'no final decision has been made regarding whether or not to participate' in the talks in Islamabad.
He made the remarks during an interview with state television.
"As of now, I can say that no final decision has been made regarding participation. This does not mean hesitation or lack of decision; rather, the reason is clear. We are receiving contradictory messages and conflicting behavior along with unacceptable actions on the part of the Americans," he explained.
The spokesperson recalled the announcement by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on April 15 regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, to which US President Donald Trump responded by announcing it would ‘continue the naval blockade'.
“The naval blockade is considered an illegal act under international law and constitutes a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement,” Baqai continued. “This was followed by the attack on our merchant ship.”
This comes amid anticipation of a new round of talks between the United States and Iran in Islamabad.
Until now, there has been no official confirmation of Iran's participation in the round, though media reports have stated that it will send a negotiating delegation to the Pakistani capital.
Meanwhile, Trump confirmed that his representatives would travel to Islamabad for a second round of talks with Iran, before adding that he did not wish to extend the ceasefire.
Later, he extended the ceasefire on Tuesday unilaterally, although Tehran has since commented that it views US actions in the Strait of Hormuz as an act of war, indicating that Iran will only observe the ceasefire in its own ‘national interests’.
On April 8, the United States and Iran reached a conditional two-week ceasefire agreement, followed by a round of talks in Islamabad mediated by Pakistan, which didn't reach a breakthrough.
The United States and Israel launched a joint military operation against Iran on February 28. Tehran subsequently confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the war; his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, was later chosen as his successor.

Footage shows Diah devouring the fruit cake together with her mother and other elephants and visitors singing the birthday song for the Sumatran elephant calf, a species native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra.
Dimas Andika, one of the visitors, said that events like these are important to spread awareness about endangered species such as the Sumatran elephant.
"Celebrations like this help broaden our horizons regarding the protection of wildlife and remind us not to engage in poaching," Andika said.
Public Relations Manager of Jawa Timur Park Group, Titik S. Ariyanto, hailed Diah's growth as a remarkable achievement.
"We take great pride in successfully breeding this nearly extinct species," Ariyanto said. "We named this baby elephant Diah, which in Sanskrit means 'shining' or 'light,' and she is currently thriving."
Jawa Timur Park 2, a wildlife conservation institution in Indonesia, has been working to breed and conserve Indonesia's endemic species. The event highlights a significant achievement for the zoo's conservation and breeding programmes for this critically endangered species."

<media:keywords>Viory</media:keywords>
From darkness to dignity - Blind craftsman in Cote d'Ivoire turns plastic waste into future for his family

From darkness to dignity - Blind craftsman in Cote d'Ivoire turns plastic waste into future for his family

"In the quiet workshop of the small town of N’Douci, a story of resilience is unfolding as blind Sebastien Yao Kouame hand-weaves plastic into beds and armchairs, transforming recycled material into a source of income and independence after losing his sight as a teenager.

Footage filmed on Monday shows the 34-year-old craftsman working with his hands, measuring, tightening, and shaping plastic strands into furniture.

His workshop has become the centre of a small but growing business, built on an initial investment of around €75, supported by training, family assistance, and local demand.

“I lost my sight completely in 2013,” Kouame recalls, describing how glaucoma gradually took his vision while he was still in school. “Losing your sight doesn’t mean losing your life. You can still work with others to earn a living.”

“My recovery is down to the training, because after the training, I set up my own business, and that’s where I rebuilt my life. My wife is also by my side, supporting me, and that has played a part in my recovery," he added.

His wife, Yao Affoue Solange, says she is proud of Kouame, noting: “If it were anyone else, they’d have stayed with their parents, but he fights and does his best to look after us – that’s what I like about him.”

Today, Kouame is fully dependent on touch to guide his work, relying on what he describes as 'a sixth sense' to identify patterns and correct structure as he weaves.

“When I finish a piece of furniture, I can tell it’s well-made just by touching it,” he says. “It often amazes me.”

Despite his disability, Kouame has developed a functioning production system with support from his wife and nephews, who assist with materials and colour selection that he cannot visually distinguish. Orders now include sofas and chairs delivered beyond his local community, including to Abidjan.

One of his clients, entrepreneur Akouba Angola Aggre, said the craftsmanship exceeded expectations.

“He came all the way from N’Douci to deliver,” she noted. “What I asked for is exactly what he delivered - and even beyond that.”

In Cote d’Ivoire, where informal employment dominates the economy, small-scale craftsmanship and micro-enterprises remain key survival strategies, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas like N’Douci."

<media:keywords>Viory</media:keywords>
⚡ BREAKING: Trump extends Iran ceasefire but maintains blockade until Tehran submits 'unified proposal’

⚡ BREAKING: Trump extends Iran ceasefire but maintains blockade until Tehran submits 'unified proposal’

"Currently breaking"
